Baguio-bound

I'll be going to Baguio with my family the week after the finals exam. I guess I ought to be excited, considering that it will be my first time ever to visit the place. I had a chance to visit it a long, long time ago (when I was still in Grade 4 hehe), but I traded my ticket for a betamax! (My father made my brother and I choose between a trip to Baguio or a betamax; of course, considering how things were then - movie rental shops have just sprouted all over the city, and we were hungry for movies - we chose the latter). But I really don't know what to expect. Everybody says Baguio is a beautiful place, but really I can't picture how it'll look like. I wonder if it's still cold there the way it was when my family went there.

Will be bringing of course the essentials for a long trip: digicam, a book, and some audiobooks for that long, long bus ride to Baguio from Manila.

Glimpses of Sanke

My grandparents own a sizeable tract of land in Negros. These are taken in Sanke, their home town (courtesy of my bro) last All Saints Day.

A blink of an eye

I was gone for 10 days and yet it feels like I just blinked my eye and here I am again back in Cebu.

It's like a dream. I prepared for this last night, when my pangga and I walked in the streets of downtown Davao in search of durian. I held her hand tightly, felt her hand's pressure on mine, to concretely register the moment to my memory. I watched our feet as we walked, watched our shadows, felt the coldness of the night.

I pondered long and hard inside the room where I slept, I took in all sensation I can to record the moment while it unfolded. I thought, "I'm going to miss this room, I'm going to miss this house, I'm going to miss this place..."

And most of all, I thought, "I'm going to miss your presence ga, your smile, your face, your eyes, your voice..."

I drowned my senses because I knew in a matter of hours all that's going to be like a dream.

True enough, I'm here, back home, and Davao and everyone and everything there that I experienced and hold dear feels like a dream.

All set for Davao!

I'm all ready for Davao. I'll be leaving tomorrow morning (at 5am!). I'm excited to see my baby, whom I haven't seen for about four months. I'm excited to see Davao again; and of course, I'm looking forward to my plane ride. I look at it with such childish anticipation.

I'll choose a seat next to a window if I can. I'll take photos of the view outside, especially of the clouds, which marvelled me so much the last time. This is the advantage of those who get to travel by plane only very rarely, they get to really appreciate the experience of flying.

I'll be gone for 10 days, yet I've packed clothing that can last me for about 3 weeks. It's always like this when I travel. It's a sign of being a segurista.

Our family will be in Negros on All Soul's Day. So the day after my return from Davao on the 30th, I'll be travelling again. We'll be going via the land route. It will be my very first time to drive from Cebu to Negros. It's going to be a very looooong drive. But I'm also excited because it's been many, many months (perhaps more than a year?) that I haven't seen the southern tip of Cebu, the channel between Bato and Sibulan, and of course Dumaguete, sweet old Dumaguete...

I can't wait to watch Pride and Prejudice (the one produced by the BBC) with my pangga. Yes, I'm finally done downloading it through BitTorrent, after more than a month of waiting! Unfortunately, I'm only able to burn 2 of the 6 episodes. I didn't expect it takes forever to burn a single episode into a CD.

Till then, sayonara.

Going to Negros

The next couple of days promises to be dizzying. I'm leaving for Negros tonight to visit tita's wake. So after going to Sotto this afternoon to interview and assess my patient/s for next week's duty, I'm going straight home to get my things. Then I'll leave for the pier. The ship will depart late in the evening. Before day breaks I'll be in Dumaguete. Hopefully I can get to Sanke at around 8. I'll stay there for a couple of hours or more then I'll head back again for Dumaguete. Hopefully I can catch a fast craft trip there so I can reach Cebu for just an hour. If not I'll have to take the longer route - ride a pump boat from Sibulan to Liloan, then catch a vhire or a Ceres bus to take me back home in Minglanilla. I'll have an extra time to wash up and change to my uniform so I can report to Sotto before my shift starts at 10 in the evening. Mahuman amo shift 6 AM, so uli dayn ko to get some sleep, then wake up to read up on my patient's case and make a pathophysiology of the disease. Whew.

I'll actually be bringing along with me my Medical-Surgical book, NANDA, and Pathophysiology book so I can write the written requirements for the duty on the ship!

I miss Negros and I miss travelling by sea. I miss riding the Ceres bus... I miss Dumaguete. I'm happy I can visit it again, even though mulabay lang ko. Enough na nga makakita ko balik sa Negros. I miss the time my pangga and I spent there two years ago.

Back from Davao

Finally, maka-post nako. I've been a bit busy this week kay nag-prepare mi para sa badging and capping. The ceremony took place yesterday.

I arrived last Sunday and I really enjoyed my time in Davao. It's so good to see my labidab again. I missed her a lot.

Here are some pictures:

My labidab and her best friend Henri.

A view from Henri's backyard.

This is Pangga's family's adorable little poodle, Donnie.

View from inside an eatery in Davao City. Across the street is Limso Medical Center.

Another view.

Taken from the skywalk near Victoria's Mall.

NCCC Mall in Matina(?), across Juna subdivision.

The parish church inside Juna subdivision, where we went to see a Kerygma Feast. We expected to see Bo Sanchez but he wasn't the speaker that day. It was a Bro. Arun... I forgot his last name. He was a good speaker, had a great sense of humor.

I took a shot of the church's ceiling.

A sign in a rest room in Davao City. You know you're in Davao when you hear people talk in a mixture of Bisaya and Tagalog... :)

The City Hall in downtown Davao.

Quezon Park in front of the City Hall.

The Rizal monument in Rizal Park.

I forgot the name of this church...

The Freedom Park monument.

A version of the Pieta.

Me and Pangga in the City Triangle, near the Ateneo de Davao University, her Alma Mater.

Pangga and Donnie. Hehehe... Donnie looks at the camera, the pup knows how to pose!

A view of Davao City from a pumpboat. We were on our way to the Costa Marina beach resort in Samal island.

Say cheese!

A view of Samal island.

Preparing to dock.

A view of the tampi.

The beach's entrance.

One of the things that make Costa Marina attractive is its greenery.

A parrot.

Wala ko kaila unsa ning langgama!

The beach. Notice the white sand. Pangga said this resort made controversy some time ago because of their use of the white sand, which they got from somewhere else.

A cargo ship on its way to the international sea port.

:)

Another view of the beach. We got there at about 7 in the morning and at that time the sea water was already receding. The tide started rising at noon.

See? No more water in the background, just dry leaves... haha.

In a swing... :)

Puppy eyes hehe... :)

Waiting for the boat.

On our way home.

A magnificent view of the sky from the pumpboat. Pangga took this shot. Notice the details of the clouds. I love this shot because of the color of the sky. The sun is about to set.

I took this shot. The sky is so beautiful.

I also enjoyed the plane ride. The experience was truly surreal for me. It was only my second and third time since I was a baby, so the whole thing was new to me. It was surreal to see the houses and the islands hundreds of feet below. Everything looked so small, yet they seemed so near as well. I marvelled at the whole thing, and I was smiling widely from the airport till we landed in Davao. It was surreal to see the clouds. One time in the middle of the trip it almost as if we were riding a boat, because the clouds below us was so vast and so smooth they looked like the sea. It felt like a dream... :)

My only regret was that I forgot to bring the camera along with me... I left it in my bag, which I deposited in the cargo. I only managed to take photos on the return flight.
