Day one

I feel so tired. I just came from our duty in the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC). We had the 2-11 shift. Grabe ka daghan tawo ganiha, especially pag-gabii na... I wonder how the patients there are able to have sufficient rest with all those distractions...

My new batch mates are quite okay. Wala jud koy kauban sa ako group karun nga classmate nako last semester. But they're all okay. Medyo we are the silent and the behaved type. My batch mates last summer and the ones in the second semester, they were quite extroverted. My batch mates today are more introverted, pareha nako... hehe.

We will be having our duty for one whole week. That means 5 days straight, plus one day for case conference. That is the new set up for the third year level. One week duty, one week lecture. Stressful kaayo. Pero I think this will be good for us, kay mas-sustained amo experience and learning. Before, during the second semester and the summer term, we only had 1 duty per week, so dili jud continuous ang process sa learning.

A few thoughts lang regarding the ward duty:

Why do staff nurses have to talk so fast and so inaudibly when they make their endorsements? Isn't the purpose of an endorsement the communication of the patients' progress report to the nurses on the next shift? It defeats the purpose altogether if it's as if they're talking only to themselves. Are they doing it for the mere sake of having the endorsement?

And while we are on the topic of proper communication, why do most, if not all, doctors' and nurses' penmanships so annoyingly incomprehensible? What's the use of writing down your notes if other people wouldn't even be able to understand it? I thought importante jud nga maayo ang communication between the members of the health care team. I think these doctors and nurses need to take a refresher course in basic writing. I mean, mura jud og kinder 1 section 10 sila musuwat... :(

Barely-heard endorsements. Major LOL. You're not alone, we've been complaining about that, too.

"Room 306, Mr. X, complaining of hypogastric pain, with D5LR @ 30gtts/min, blah blah blah." The rest is for us to wonder. Pwede magmicrophone nalang sila? I mean, wla man koy hearing deficit, pero ambot lang jud anang endorsement.

With doctors' orders, haay... they need to go back to PRINTING 101. Pronto!
